6 Christian Theater Options for You

6 Christian Theater Options for You

Here are some opportunities to enjoy Christian theater (in alphabetical order). I haven’t listed all the locations, but the cities I mention are in bold, so they’ll stand out for you.

Look for opportunities for ministry or for introducing your children to theater. Check their family-friendly shows and their 2024 calendars (and beyond).

The Screwtape Letters

Fellowship for Performing Arts

According to its website, the Fellowship for Performing Arts “is a not-for-profit New York City-based production company producing theatre and film from a Christian worldview to engage a diverse audience.” It was founded by award-winning actor Max McLean. Current touring stage productions are: The Screwtape Letters and C. S. Lewis on Stage: Further Up and Further In. Performances are scheduled in California, D. C., Kansas City, Virginia Beach, and several cities in Texas.

Also, watch a film version of Max McLean and Nicholas Ralph performing The Most Reluctant Convert: The Untold Story of C. S. Lewis.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

The Logos Theater

The Logos Theatre has made several excellent adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia. God has blessed them with touring opportunities for these productions. Robert T. saw The Horse and His Boy at the Museum of the Bible and wrote, “Wow! Blown away by the costumes, lighting design, and scenic design. A great adaptation.”

The Logos Theater is located in Taylors, SC, in the Greenville area. The Scarlet Pimpernel, an original musical, will open on September 22.

The Logos Theater tour schedule is:

  • The Horse and His Boy at the Freedom Encounter Theater in Branson, MO, December 7 to 16, 2023.
  • Prince Caspian at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC, February 23 to April 28, 2024.

Can’t make it to any of these locations? No problem . . . their virtual theater has a great selection. I added The Lions of Trondheim to my watchlist.

Prince Caspian

The Museum of the Bible World Stage Theater

The Museum of the Bible is completing a second run of The Horse and His Boy from Logos Theater productions. (The last day of the tour is August 6, 2023. If you missed this, maybe it will return for a third run.)

Narnia fans will have another opportunity. Logos Theater will present Prince Caspian at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. February 23 to April 28, 2024.

Samson

NarroWay Productions

Do you like dinner theater? Each show by NarroWay includes a themed meal served by the performing cast.

NarroWay Productions is located in Fort Mill, SC, outside Charlotte, NCSamson is running most weekends through September.

After that, they have shows centered around Halloween, Christmas, and Easter.

Get a group of families together and book The Emperor’s New Clothes.

Moses

Sight & Sound

You may be familiar with Sight & Sound. We took our daughter to see Ruth many years ago in Lancaster, PA. We were blown away by the stage that wrapped around the sides and the live animals. It was a great experience.

Sight & Sound has theaters in Lancaster, PA and Branson, MO. Both theaters have a Christmas production.

  • At Lancaster, go see Moses. Next year, they are opening with Daniel on March 14, 2024.
  • At Branson, go see Queen Esther. This production will continue into 2024.

Sight & Sound TV has a large selection. I saw Ruth on stage. I’m sure the TV version is good. (I didn’t care for Jonah. I would still try others.)

Sight & Sound is branching out to producing films for movie theaters. Their first film, I Heard the Bells, came in #2 at the box office in December 2022. Check their film page for a late 2023 update on what’s next.

Your Home Theater

If you’re like me, live theater is better than a TV version, but it’s a good second option.

Again, watch some great theater productions from home:
