Would you love to prepare your heart for Christmas during Advent this year? I asked some friends to recommend Advent daily or weekly readings for you.
- Advent Devotionals from Cru.org
- The ABC’s of Christmas by Ray Pritchard ~ This eBook is free through Monday, December 2nd, 2013.
- Crosswalk.com offers daily devotionals from Black Friday through New Year’s Eve. Don’t let the dates in the post titles confuse you; they must’ve included the dates from the original year when these were written. Sign up to receive these in your inbox, if you prefer.
- Good News of Great Joy ~ daily readings from Desiring God, John Piper’s ministry.
- Judy Douglass’ 2010 Advent series.
- YouVersion Christmas reading plans from 3 to 29 days long and everything inbetween.
Judy also recommends Silence and Other Surprising Invitations of Advent, a “lovely, thoughtful book” by Enuma Okoro.
Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts author, has many creative ideas for you on her blog. She also has a printable Advent calendar to enjoy as a family.
Christianity Today offers a daily devotional calendar which includes (in addition to delving into Scripture) serving others, prayers from church history, creative worship, fun food and crafts, and other hands-on ideas. You’ll need to subscribe to see these.
Want more than devotionals just for Advent? You could start some great devotionals on January 1st. BibleGateway.com offers two-year’s-worth daily devotional readings from Charles Spurgeon’s sermons. They also offer devotionals from the writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and C. S. Lewis.
